September 30 is the end of the U. S. Government's fiscal year.  You can bet your last wooden nickel that every federal agency is stocking up on paper clips and toilet paper.  They've got to spend all of their money before the end of the month.

The information you are about to read was copied from the Peter G. Peterson Foundation web site and the U. S. Treasury web site.  None of the names have been changed to protect the innocent.  Not only are none of them innocent, but there weren't any names.

The federal debt on August 27, 2024 was $35,225,518,809,761.  Every day, the exact number fluctuates as the Department of Treasury issues and redeems debt in response to government cash needs.  The estimated population of the United States is 345,670,291 so each citizen's share of this debt is about $104,584.  Think about it for a minute.  You will realize that if we make a lot of babies, everyone's share of the debt will be a lot lower.

If you want to make a donation to reduce the deficit, here is the address:
ATTN  DEPT  G
BUREAU  OF  THE  PUBLIC  DEBT
P O  BOX  2188
PARKERSBURG,  WV   26106-2188

Did any of that make sense to you?  Me either.  All I know for sure is that not much changed since last year (except for the numbers getting bigger).  Uncle Sammy is going to continue taking a lot of our money.
